Obituary: James Doonan, 88, Of Bridgeport

The following obituary is from Spear-Miller Funeral Home:

James Doonan, age 88, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, the son of the late Thomas and Bridget Doonan, he came to the United States and had worked for the Town of Fairfield Board of Education for 40 years.

He was a member of the Gaelic American Club and loved going to the club on Sundays to watch the Irish Football games. James also enjoyed Irish Soccer and Rugby.

He will be sadly missed by his three brothers, Peter Doonan and his wife Mary Ann, John Doonan and Joe Doonan; a sister, Eileen of Ireland and several loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Tom and Michael; sisters, Maureen Corcoran of Trumbull and Nancy Kelly of England; a sister-in-law, Mary and brother-in-law Dennis Kelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Cathedral, 399 Washington Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
