OH BOY do I remember this retail giant.Unknown or forgotten by many perhaps but I had the utmost pleasure of being contacted by the daughter of JACK GOLDSTEIN who really started and established SHOPPERS'FAIR here on BOSTON AVENUE.ONE of the first of many chain stores here for our shopping pleasure.The company had opened numerous stores in BALTIMORE MD.and other areas.MR.GOLDSTEIN brought the concept of discount retail to us.Shoppers'FAIR was established in 1956 in our city.AT that time the company was huge with 46 SHOPPERS'FAIRS' that were introduced with the efforts of MR.GOLDSTEIN who no doubt was truly a leader and a legend in the retail sector .The company also introduced 94 MANGELS'STORES as well a clothing chain.BUT as fate would have its'way in 1974 brought the closing of its'DETROIT stores-followed by the last 10 stores closing their doors forever.BRIDGEPORT closed its' store in 1975 after so many years.WELL missed I'M sure are the sales at our local store.BOY how history and time changes things .Sadly missed but remembered Shoppers'FAIR'S memory lives on.
