Pedestrian Critically Injured After Being Struck By Vehicle In Bridgeport: Police

The crash was reported Friday morning, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 71-year-old Bridgeport man was seriously injured Friday when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Water and John streets in Bridgeport, according to police.

The victim was struck just before 7 a.m., and is listed in critical condition at St. Vincent's Medical Center, said Bridgeport Police Sgt. Darryl Wilson.

"The scene was reconstructed, and after a preliminary investigation, it was determined a 29-year-old Bridgeport resident was operating a black Honda Civic and traveling north on Water Street," Wilson said in a statement. "The 29-year-old male operator continued traveling north and passed through the intersection of John Street and struck a 71-year-old Bridgeport resident attempting to cross Water Street from the eastbound sidewalk."

Wilson said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, which is ongoing.
