Person Dies After Jumping Off Route 8 Overpass In Bridgeport: Police

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A person died Tuesday night after jumping off the Route 8 overpass northbound on Chopsey Hill Road in Bridgeport, according to police.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m., and initially emergency calls reported that a person had by struck by a vehicle on Route 8. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"While investigating, [Connecticut State Police] Troop G confirmed with bystanders that the pedestrian jumped off the overpass on Chopsey Hill Road," wrote Scott Appleby, the city's director of Emergency Management, in a statement.

Bridgeport police and state police are investigating the incident.
