''Pleasurable Memories AT Pleasure Beach''

A Piece of Bridgeports'History

GOD I can still hear the rattling of the wood planks as we crossed the bridge on the C.R.L.BUS .IT seems like yesterday but in reality it was decades ago in the nineteen fifties if my memory serves me right.I was just a young kid seeking entertainment for that special day.

AS one approached the end of the bridge the excitement of the rides received your attention right away ,especially the roller coaster as it made its'way to the very top of the tracks then rushed down as its'riders' screamed loudly enjoying the thrill of the ride.

I remember saving up my pennies so I could buy cards at the penny arcade.I also can remember the special cut french fries, the candy apples, the cotton candy stands as you walked through the archway.GOD it was so special almost as though it was our answer to DISNEYLAND.

I remember buying tickets for the rides and being so anxious to get aboard the train ride ,the bumping cars, the merry go round with its' beautiful painted horses .IT was indeed a childs' paradise.

Also for the adults there was the PLEASURE BEACH BALLROOM where big bands played their favorite songs.AND near by was the penisula for swimmers and off the bridge fishing was always in season. This beach had something for all family members seeking shelter from boredom and at great prices too.

NOE we turn the clocks ahead to 2014 and here is Pleasure Beach reopening as a picnic sort of place and swimming truly a place to sit and get a tan during our SUMMER season.

The bridge still is in need of repair ,allowed by time to be idle and giving way to water taxies to get you there or by the use of boat owners themselves I'D guess.

BOY how sad that great days of summer fun have now faded into history along with other historical issues of our fine city. What once was our mega of entertainment is truly gone forever but still lives so vividly in my memory.
