Shooting Led To Temporary Closure Of Rt. 8 In Bridgeport: Update
The highway was shut down for a period on Tuesday morning.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — Route 8 southbound was shut down for a couple of hours on Tuesday morning after a person was shot near the on-ramp at Exit 5, according to authorities.
Scott Appleby, director of Bridgeport's Office of Emergency Management, said in a statement that just before 3 a.m., St. Vincent's Medical Center notified authorities that doctors were treating a person who had suffered a gun shot wound to the foot. The injury was not considered to be a threat to life.
The shooting may have occurred southbound on Route 8, according to Appleby.

WTNH-TV also reported that one person was injured in a shooting around 5:30 a.m. near the on-ramp to Exit 5. To what extent the two incidents are related, or if they were separate reports of the same incident, has not been disclosed.
The highway was closed between exits 5 and 3 on Route 8 southbound, but has since been reopened, according to the state Department of Transportation.
