Popular Bridgeport Restaurant Sued After Cop DUI Crash: Lawsuit

A Bridgeport police officer became intoxicated at the restaurant and crashed into a woman, according to a lawsuit.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport’s popular Vazzy’s Pasta & Pizza restaurant is being sued by a woman who was injured after an off-duty Bridgeport police officer crashed into her while intoxicated. The officer had been drinking at the restaurant before the crash, according to the lawsuit.

Officer John Carrano was served alcoholic beverages after becoming visibly intoxicated, the lawsuit alleges.

Shortly after midnight on Dec. 23 Carrano drove on the wrong side of Broadridge Avenue and crashed into Elizabeth Bucci’s vehicle in Stratford. Bucci sustained several injuries including two fractures that required surgery.

Bucci is seeking money and punitive damages.
“...(Vazzy’s) continued to serve John F. Carrano alcoholic beverages despite the fact that he displayed obvious signs and symptoms of intoxication,” the lawsuit states.

Under Connecticut law the seller of alcoholic beverages can be held liable for damages if someone is injured by an intoxicated person.
