Priest Removed From Parish For 'Boundary' Violations With Minors

The priest was removed for violating policy regarding boundaries with minors.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport priest was removed from his post at Saint Charles Parish after he violated boundaries with minors, according to the diocese.

Rev. Frank Gomez has served at the church since 2015, according to the Connecticut Post. Bishop Frank Caggiano wrote in a letter to parishioners that there weren't any allegations of illegal or immoral actions, but that Gomez violated diocesan code of conduct for safe environment policy.

Gomez was assigned to a health care facility for clergy to address personal issues, Caggiano said.

The news comes days after Caggiano wrote in a statement that the news of sexual abuse against minors in Pennsylvania by priests made him sick to his stomach. He wrote that the Bridgeport diocese instituted the Safe Environment program 15 years ago to prevent abuse and encourage early reporting.

"I believe that the Church is facing a moment of crisis that demands honesty and repentance from the bishops and decisive action to ensure that these failures will never happen again," Caggiano wrote about the Pennsylvania abuse case. "The credibility of the bishops has been tarnished in the eyes of many, including many of our faithful."
