REAL OLD Theaters Are ''Gone With The Wind''

YESTERDAYS ENTERTAINMENT GONE FOREVER

BACK IN THE DAY as I call it there were so many theaters here in BRIDGEPORT.I am going to briefly discuss a few points on a few movie houses.AS a example of what was then THE HIGHWAY THEATER,AT 205 BOSTON AVE,IN BRIDGEPORT.This opened in the late 1940's This was a single screen theater at that time.ALL seating was on one level.IN the 70's it became a split theater.Closed down in the 80's.IN present day it is a medical building a significant change from the old days.

THE BARNUM THEATER 1828-1830--was on BARNUM AVE.IN BRIDGEPORT.I went there a few times BACK IN THE DAY.IT opened in 1947 closed in later years.A rarely talked about movie house was THE PARK CITY.1176 STRATFORD AVE, IN BRIDGEPORT,CT.Opened in JANUARY ON THE 4TH IN 1909.STARTED in the 1920's it was run by THE STRAND AMUSEMENT COMPANY.CLOSED IN 1953 DEMOLISHED.

THE ASTOR 445 EAST MAIN STREET-IN BPT.A one screen theater with 973 seats .CAME about DECEMBER 2ND,1947.AT one time known as THE NEW CAPITAL THEATER.AT LAST PLACE FOR NOW ---THE HIPPODRONE THEATER--1411 STRATFORD AVE.BPT CT.OPENED IN 1911-Remodeled in 1917-remodeled again in 1939.CLOSED present;y /not demolished.
