Remembering Downtown Bridgeport

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

HEY remember this part of downtown?Boy MORROWS'NUT HOUSE brings back such nice memories.I remember waiting on the corner of MAIN STREET AND FAIRFIELD Avenue waiting for my connecting C.R.L.BUS to head home after shopping downtown stores. The aroma of the peanuts roasting -its'fragrance filled the air teasingly enough so you had to buy some nuts to satisfy your taste buds.GOD this was a slice of life worth living in the moment.

Downtown was a busy place back in the days before malls were ever developed or thought of.IT was a mecca of all kinds of five and dime stores as well as fine clothing shops.YOU could find just about anything in the stores there back then. There were tailors too who could alter your menswear in MR.JERRYS'Another great mens;shop was AUSTINS'.AND lets not forget LERNER SHOPS for the ladies. Also H.L.GREENS,WOOLWORTHS,W.T..GRANTS,SS.KRESSGES,WALGREENS,KAYS DEPATMENT STORE as well as HOWLANDS DRY GOODS,SEARS,LEVITTS so much to offer within a few blocks radius.NOW we look back in history and see downtown lost its'luster as we became a mall shopping society. What were the old days are by gone days of another era.NO more C.R.L.BUSES with its'starters on the corners giving you time schedules as you waited for buses.I miss them days and hold precious their vivid pictures in my memories now and forever.
