AT one point in BRIDGEPORTS'HISTORY REMINGTON ARMS was a 1.5 million square foot structures comprised of 13 buildings 73 acres of industrial property.ITs'location was BARNUM AVENUE in BRIDGEPORT.Originaly built in 1867 under the name of THE UNION METALIC CARTRIDGE COMPANY .The company has a vast history.AT one point in time it was the largest ammunition supplier.THE factory employed about 17,000 workers .IT was one of the biggest employers at the time.IT stabilized the economic climate for sure.IT was a major supplier for our military. Then in 1970 REMINGTON moved its'major production force to ARKANSAS.This was only the beginning of the decline of many job losses.BY the time 1988 rolled around the site became abandoned and now stands blighted as another eyesore for our city like other closed factories as well.Lost jobs, lost taxes, lost production to our military and another economic loss came about.NOW the fire burned structure tells its'own story .Broken windows, empty parking lots, empty buildings, stories of ghosts prevail, lost taxes ,and jobs gone forever. Some people say the company was cursed.IF that is true or not is debaitable however it stands in ruins and decaying matter a reminder of our cities 'history never ever to resurrect itself again.LIKE other factories that-were here it too lies among the forgotten and forsaken.
