Roof Collapses On Abandoned Church In Bridgeport

Emergency personnel received several 911 calls Sunday afternoon about the collapse.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The roof of an abandoned church collapsed Sunday in Bridgeport, according to fire officials.

Emergency personnel received several 911 calls just before 5 p.m. reporting the collapse at True Pentecostal Church, 1267 Barnum Ave., the Bridgeport Fire Department said. There was no one in the church, according to the fire department, which noted that a nearby building was impacted but no structural issues were immediately evident as a result of the collapse.

Barnum Avenue was closed between Mill Hill and Central Avenue, fire officials said, and the building department was notified.
