Sentencing for Bridgeport Man Guilty in Former Friend's Drowning Death

Richard DeCarvalho and Wayne Bentley got into an fight last year that ended with the two in a creek. Only DeCarvalho emerged, police said.

Bridgeport, CT - Richard DeCarvalho, 33, of Bridgeport, was sentenced to 20 months in prison in connection with the drowning death of his former friend Wayne Bentley, 42, after the two fought in Ash Creek in Bridgeport in 2015.

The Connecticut Post reports that DeCarvalho had pleaded guilty to the following:

  • Criminally Negligent Homicide
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Breach of Peace

The two men had been friends when they got into an argument at Chubby's Pub in Bridgeport in August and ended up in Ash Creek where Bentley, a West Haven resident, eventually drowned.
