BRIDGEPORT shares some history with STRATFORD CT.THE airport was known as THE BRIDGEPORT MUNICIPAL AIRPORT.IT is a public airport here in FAIRFIELD COUNTY.CATERGORIZED as a general aviation facility.Years ago-it-was called AVON FIELD.IT was at one point a racetrack where planes landed in the infield.ALSO the first airshow was where the ST.MICHAELS CEMETARY is today.The airshow was held in 1911.BRIDGEPORT purchased the airport in 1937.IN-1972 it was named THE SIKORSKY MEMORIAL AIRPORT.AMERICAN AIRLINES left here in 1960.ALLEGHENY AIRLINES left here in 1976.The airport covers 800 acres.Also the former president JOHN F.KENNEDY gave a speech there in 1962.ALL in all it has quite a history.
