Suspects Arrested In Double Fatal Shooting In Bridgeport: Police

The two suspects are accused of killing Kazzmaire Dorsey and Ramon Gonzalez-Peguero Jr., according to Bridgeport police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Two Bridgeport men have been arrested in connection with last month's double homicide in Bridgeport of local resident Kazzmaire Dorsey, 18, and Hartford resident Ramon Gonzalez-Peguero Jr., 32, according to Bridgeport police.

The two victims were shot on July 10 near the Atlas gas station in the 1700 block of Fairfield Avenue; Gonzalez-Peguero was pronounced dead at the hospital following the 4:55 p.m. shooting, while Dorsey died nearly two weeks later.

According to Bridgeport police, Jahmir Daniel, 18, "is alleged to have fired the shots that killed the victims while riding as a passenger on a passing scooter."

Evidence obtained by police "indicates that Dorsey was the intended target and Peguero, who has no association with either Dorsey or Daniel, was struck by a stray bullet."

Daniel was arrested Wednesday and charged with the following:

  • Murder with Special Circumstances
  • Murder (2 counts)
  • Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Third-degree Larceny

He is being held in lieu of bail of $5 million.

"The evidence also shows that Daniel attempted to elude capture by destroying evidence," police said in a statement.

Hours after the shooting, Daniel, Jack Vaz, 19, and several others, "got rid of the scooter used in the murder by stashing it in a wooded area in the city's North End."

Vaz was also arrested Wednesday and charged with:

  • Second-degree Hindering Prosecution
  • Tampering with Evidence

He is being held in lieu of bail of $750,000; both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Thursday.

"These arrests are the result of the tireless work of the lead detective, Keith Hanson, and the many other detectives in the Homicide Unit, Digital Video Retrieval Team (DVRT), and Identification Unit that assisted.

"The case remains open and other arrests are expected."
