Teen Dies After Gun Discharges And Shoots Him In Face: Bridgeport PD

Two teens were handling a firearm when the gun discharged, according to Bridgeport police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 16-year-old boy died Monday of injuries he sustained when he was shot in the face over the weekend, according to Bridgeport police.

The shooting occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, when the 16-year-old, and a 15-year-old girl, were handling a firearm in a bedroom in a Bridgeport home. The gun discharged, shooting the teen in the face, police said, based on a preliminary investigation.

The identity of the deceased teen has not been released.

"This was a tragic and isolated incident," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran in a statement. "The Police Department’s thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this young victim."

The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Pacific Street in Bridgeport. The teen was shot once, and rushed to an area hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

"Due to the injuries reported on September 9, 2023, the Detective Bureau’s Homicide Squad took charge of the investigation," Gilleran said. "They were assisted by Detectives from the Forensic Identification Unit. The Detective Bureau processed a crime scene on Pacific Street, interviewed witness(es), collecting evidence, and notified the family."
