LETS' face facts our theaters are gone for good.WE at one time within our downtown area had a cluster of various theaters and sadly one by one they left the area.Starting on MAIN ST.near CONGRESS ST.there was ''THE LOEWS POLI''RIGHT next door closeby the MAJESTIC'' and across the road was THE LYRIC AND THE STRAND.FARTHER down on the left side was THE GLOBE.ON FAIRFIELD AVE.was THE RIVIOLI-.AND on STATE ST.we had the WARNER BROTHERS'.North MAIN ST.gave us THE MERRITT and on BOSTON AVE,was THE HIGHWAY THEATER.ALSO on our EAST SIDE we had THE HIPPODRONE AND ASTOR THEATERS.WE indeed had a nice share of the entertainment theaters.ALSO on RIVER ST.we-had THE CANDLELIGHT-PIX DRIVE IN.BOY we sure had choices of the latest films from HOLLYWOOD Plus movies when I was young was a quarter.WOW with a dollar you got candy ,popcorn and a flck. Those were the days my friend we thought they;d never end but yes they are gone forever.
