Roll back time to- when the earlier days of BRIDGEPORT when theaters were a good portion of our personal entertainment.A time when life was simpler not complex like our lives seem to be today.WE had a group of theaters that showed the latest HOLLYWOOD movies and showed newsreel as well as cartoons and believe it or not two full length movies for our pleasure.LIFE was great back in the day.
Some local movie houses I remember are THE LOEWS POLI,THE MAJESTIC,THE STRAND,THE LYRIC,THE GLOBE,THE RIVOLI,THE WARNERS,THE MERRITT,THE HIGHWAY,THE BARNUM,THE CANDLELIGHT -PIX,THE RIALTO,THE BEVERLY,THE WEST END,and THE ASTOR,THE HIPPODROME and may have been a few more,Every day so many movies were available to us.Now like other places in our city they are gone forever.More job losses, more taxes lost, another economic hit for our city. What caused the demise of the old theaters is anyones'guess..Now again the city can reflect upon its'changes. With me its'a matter of retaining the good times with golden memories of a era in our history.
