GOD where has all the great years gone too?I sit here now 78 years old reflecting upon the good old days.I am talking about the 1950's.I am sure there are many senior citizens that can tell stories of the 50's era when life had a different meaning and COVID 19 did not exist.OUR downtown area was a great place to meet and converse with friends.WE were high school aged back then out for a little social life downtown .I remember JOHN'S BARGAIN STORE,MICHAELS'JEWELERS,WALGREENS,WOOLWORTHS,SS KRESSGE,HOWLANDS,MILES SHOES,FLAGG BROTHERS' SHOES,MORROWS'NUT HOUSE,LEVITTS,HL GREENS,LERNER SHOPS,MR.JERRYS'CLOTHING,AUSTINS'MENS'SHOP,WT.GRANTS,THE GLOBE THEATER,THE LOEWSPOLI THEATER,THE MAJESTIC,THE LYRIC,THE STRAND,THE WHITE TOWER,THE CONEY ISLAND EATERY.BOY what a great town and how many hours I spent there.I bet many older folks can name places downtown I over looked.IN any regards before the malls infiltrated us to a new shopping lifestyle downtown was functional and served the community.OH-well sad to say the good old days are gone and sadly missed.
