Unofficial Vote Tallies Of Bridgeport Voters In CT's Primary Election

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Turnout was light Tuesday as Bridgeport's registered Democrats and Republicans voted in Connecticut's primaries that decided candidates for this fall's election. The unofficial vote tallies are below.

On the ballot in Bridgeport on the Democrats side were the candidates running for Secretary of State and state Treasurer, in addition to candidates for state Senator and Representative. The overall primary winners in the state are in bold.

For Secretary of State, the winner in Bridgeport was Stephanie Thomas with 3,229 votes (68.08 percent) over Maritza Bond, who had 1,514 votes (31.92 percent). On the ballot for state Treasurer, Bridgeport Democrats chose Erick Russell with 2,886 votes (61.79 percent) over Dita Bhargava (1,130 votes, 24.19 percent) and Karen DuBois-Walton (655 votes, 14.02 percent).

Thomas will face Republican Dominic Rapini for Secretary of State in the fall.

In the general election for Treasurer, Russell will face Republican Harry Arora.

In the 127th Representative District, Democrats gave Marcus Brown a narrow edge over incumbent Jack Hennessey, but the Connecticut Post reported that the race is headed to a recount. Brown received 579 votes, or 50.22 percent, to Hennessey's 574 votes and 49.78 percent.

For state Senate in the 23rd District, Bridgeport Democrats gave Herron Gaston the nod (1,599 votes, 50.7 percent) over incumbent Dennis Bradley (1,555 votes, 49.3 percent).

For U.S. Senate, Bridgeport Republicans chose Leora R. Levy (265 votes, 54.53 percent) over Themis Klarides (174 votes, 35.8 percent) over. Peter Lumaj was a distant third in Bridgeport, with 47 votes and 9.67 percent.

Levy will oppose incumbent Democrat Richard Blumenthal in the fall.

Bridgeport Republicans also chose a candidate for U.S. Representative in the 4th Congressional District, in which Jayme Stevenson (237 votes, 50.43 percent) defeated Michael Ted Goldstein (233 votes, 49.57 percent).

Stevenson will face incumbent Democrat Jim Himes in the fall.

And finally, Bridgeport Republicans gave Rapini the victory (269 votes, 57.85 percent) over Terrie E. Wood (196 votes, 42.15 percent).
