Wells Fargo's Volunteer of the Year earns grant for Bridgeport's March for Education Foundation

Trumbull, Conn. branch manager recognized through company's volunteer awards program

Ivy Hernandez, who manages Wells Fargo's branch in Trumbull, Connecticut, made community volunteerism a top priority in 2015 and 2016. Her volunteerism, effectiveness and community impact resulted in her receiving Wells Fargo's Volunteer of the Year award, which carries a $1,000.00 Wells Fargo grant to bestow on the Connecticut organization of her choice. She elected to split the $1,000.00 evenly between two noteworthy organizations: Young Ladies Taking Responsibility and Portraying Proper Education Development (YL TRAPPED) and the March for Education Foundation.

“There are so many ways to make a difference in someone’s life,” said Hernandez. “Each of these organizations do that every single day, and I’m proud that my team and I can bring the gift of financial literacy to so many of their clients.”

YL Trapped is an organization which encourages mentorship of middle and high school girls and fosters community service opportunities. The March for Education Foundation seeks to instill a lifestyle of learning in at risk communities while motivating students to achieve success through education. Hernandez is planning financial literacy workshops with both organizations.

“We are thrilled to receive this award from Ivy and Wells Fargo,” said March for Education Founder Timothy L. Cooper. “This recognition will help us fulfill our mission of Advocating for educational values and students who strive to achieve through higher learning."

Hernandez, a 7-year employee of Wells Fargo and lifetime Connecticut resident, was nominated by her managers and coworkers. “Ivy tirelessly rolls up her sleeves to support local causes,” said her manager, Dominick Pagliaro. “Not only does she take time out of her days to teach children the importance of budgeting and saving at elementary schools on a regular basis, she empowers everyone around her to give back. I’m proud that she has chosen such great organizations to recognize with this grant.”
