Woman Who Hit Cop Car, Fled Found At Bridgeport Business: Police

She fled the scene, but was later found in the parking lot of a local doughnut shop, according to police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A shoplifter who hit a Fairfield police cruiser with her car Tuesday has been arrested, according to law enforcement. Lisa M. Briggs, of Stratford, was found in Bridgeport after fleeing the scene and faces numerous charges, Fairfield police stated in a news release.

The altercation took place about 1:45 p.m. when an employee of Bob's clothing store at 889 Post Road flagged down the officer to report a vehicle fleeing the retailer after a shoplifting incident, according to police. The officer tried to make a traffic stop, but Briggs initially refused to pull over, before eventually stopping, police stated. When the officer attempted to approach Briggs, she rammed his police car and fled the scene, nearly striking the officer, according to police.

Law enforcement provided nearby agencies with a description of Briggs' Honda Accord and Stratford police found the car and Briggs in the parking lot of Donut Inc. at 1827 Boston Ave. in Bridgeport. Stolen merchandise and drug paraphernalia were discovered in the car, police stated.

Briggs, 42, of the 2900 block of Main Street in Stratford, was charged with criminal attempt to assault a police officer, interfering with a police officer, engaging officers in pursuit, larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving, according to police. She is accused of stealing $436.50 in merchandise from Bob's. Briggs was also issued misdemeanor summons for unsafe start, evading responsibility and operating without a license in connection with a collision involving a third vehicle that occurred while she tried to flee, police stated. Her bond was set at $25,000, according to police, and her court date is scheduled for July 2.
