Youth Portrait Exhibition Moves To Bridgeport City Hall

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A youth art exhibition highlighting local community members is on display at Bridgeport City Hall and the Margaret E. Morton Government Center.

Rooted in Community: Portraits of Everyday Heroes, Chapter 2 is open to the public after its presentation at the Housatonic Museum of Art. The exhibition is currently available for viewing through Aug. 8.

The exhibition was presented by Catalyst CT in partnership with the Housatonic Museum of Art. It opened with a public reception June 4 at the museum and remained on display there through July 10.

The exhibit features portraits created by local youth that recognize community members they identify as "Everyday Heroes." According to Catalyst CT, the artwork explores the influence of local mentors, leaders and other role models on young people and neighborhoods across Bridgeport.

Currently in its fourth year, the exhibition is supported by The Eileen Harris Norton Foundation. According to Catalyst CT, the program provides participants with opportunities to develop artistic skills, build confidence and connect with artists, mentors and community leaders through its partnership with the Housatonic Museum of Art.

Catalyst CT said the exhibition gives young people a platform to share their experiences and perspectives through art.

Catalyst CT is a nonprofit organization focused on youth development and violence prevention initiatives in southwestern Connecticut.

The Housatonic Museum of Art, located at Connecticut State Housatonic, houses more than 7,000 works of art, including modern and contemporary American and European art, as well as works from Africa, Asia and the Americas. The museum also presents temporary exhibitions and public programs in the Burt Chernow Galleries.
