Affordable Housing Suit in Brookfield Nears Resolution
The Zoning Commission had rejected a bid to add affordable housing units at 49 Federal Road on safety grounds.

BROOKFIELD, CT — An attorney for the Zoning Commission anticipates that the suit between a Federal Road property owner and the commission will soon be resolved.
Riaz Hussain, who owns the building at 49 Federal Road, sued when the commission unanimously voted to reject his application to add nine units to the second floor. Three of those units could be classified as affordable housing.
Fire Department officials had determined they could not safely access the building.

An attorney for the Zoning Commission has drafted a settlement that would permit the new units of housing, with certain conditions. If the settlement is rejected by either party, the case would be resolved by a judge.
