SOUTH NORWALK, CONN. (November 30, 2011)
– Norwalk will showcase an official Christmas tree for the first time in nearly 30 years, thanks in part to the expert services of Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Co., which donated time and labor to safely cut and transport a 3,600 pound Norway Spruce to the downtown.
The 40-foot evergreen now stands tall in front of the Avrick
Building at 50 Washington St., near the Metro-North train station. It will be celebrated as the city’s official Christmas tree during a tree-lighting ceremony featuring refreshments and performances by local bands, groups and
choruses beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1.
“There’s no better time than the holiday season to bring some cheer to the community,” said Bob Bociek, Almstead’s Fairfield County branch manager. “Our crew was happy to be involved with this project, and we know it
will help people share in the holiday spirit.”

Norwalk residents Colin and Nicole Grotheer donated the tree, which previously dominated the front yard of their West Rocks Road home. Almstead worked alongside A&A Crane and Rigging and FGB Construction to cut
the tree from its base, safely maneuver it around telephone wires and transport it to its pedestal in SONO Park.
Ken Hughes, Norwalk Parks Superintendent, helped to arrange and coordinate the project. The Parks Department also decorated the tree in 3,000 LED lights, 300
large ornaments and topped it with a star, which will glow brightly through the New Year.

“This tree brings a sense of community to the downtown, and everyone is really excited to have a holiday tradition be reborn,” Hughes said. “It’s a beautiful tree and everyone involved should be commended on their
professionalism and dedication to safety.”

“It was amazing to watch these crews work, and the SONO community is so excited about having this beautiful tree,” said Stacey Hascoe, assistant director of the SONO Corporate Center at 50 Washington St. “It’s helping to change the dynamic of the downtown. We want people to know how much SONO has to offer, and this will help make it a destination city.”
