Brookfield, CT, March 11, 2013– Roger Simmons, Coach of the Brookfield Dive Shop Seals swim team, announces the start of the 2013 Long Course swimming program at the Brookfield Dive Shop Aquatic Center. Interested swimmers must have a placement evaluation before applying to the program. Registration for new members is due by April 5, 2013. The first day of practice will be April 8th. Late joiners will be welcome on a space available basis.
“Many kids participate in other spring sports through their schools,” stated Coach Simmons. “If a swimmer wants to join the team but can’t practice with us until late May to early June due to conflicts with another spring sport, we can discount the program.” Swimmers must still be registered by the April 5th deadline; call Coach Simmons for details.
The Dive Shop Seals just completed a successful Short Course season: 42 swimmers participated in the short course program, which ended in early March. Coach Simmons was proud of his team: “When attending the CT Regional Championship Meet in Norwalk this last weekend, we had over 70% best times and two Age Group cuts. This is the results of all of the kids coming to practice, working hard, and be willing to make the changes they needed to make over the course of the season. “

Long Course swimming competitions are held in pools configured for swimming a 50-meter long race course. Coach Simmons, who has been coaching young swimmers for over 20 years, adds that “the Long Course program is a great place to start,” as “the Olympic Games as well as all major international competitions are conducted long course.”
Swim team practices are held in the Dive Shop’s Brookfield facility at 439 Federal Road, and meets take place at indoor and outdoor pools in the region.
