Architect Firm Cites Problems at Brookfield Schools

Handicap accessibility issues and the aging heating and water systems were among the issues highlighted in a public forum Tuesday night.

BROOKFIELD, CT — More than 30 Brookfield residents got an earful about handicap accessibility issues and the aging heating and water systems in the town's school buildings. The revelations came forth in a presentation by Hartford-based architecture and design firm Tecton Architects Tuesday evening at the high school auditorium, reports the News-Times.

Tecton cited the playgrounds, emergency access, parent pickup routes and pavement in addition to the heating, water and handicap accessibility issues, but noted these problems are common at many schools.

The study by the firm was commissioned to help the Board of Education ascertain what improvements are needed at the buildings and to develop a 10-year plan for the schools. Tecton is scheduled to recommend a menu of renovation options at another public forum to be held on June 7.
