Big Y Hosts Hiring Event For New Store In Brookfield
Over 100 jobs will be available at the Big Y World Class Market in Brookfield, opening this spring.
BROOKFIELD, CT — Big Y Foods will be opening its newest World Class Market in Brookfield, in a big way.
In January, the Big Y grocery chain announced it would be setting up shop at 14 Candlewood Lake Road as part of its major expansion into Connecticut. This week, the Springfield, MA, based retailer opened a hiring site to fill over 100 part-time and full-time positions soon to be available at its Brookfield market.
The hiring site, also located at 14 Candlewood Lake Road, will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through May 17. Shortly thereafter, the store is expected to have its grand opening, officials said.

Available positions include bakery, meat, seafood, in-store kitchen, deli, department managers, assistant department managers, cashiers and overnight stock clerks, according to the grocer. All interested applicants should apply online here prior to interview.
Big Y's Brookfield expansion took advantage of an abrupt about-face from Amazon Fresh, which pulled up stakes even after going so far as to raise its sign over the storefront.

The grocer has also announced its plans to open an outlet in Westport at 1076 Post Road East, another location that had been promo'd as an Amazon Fresh site.
In a statement released in January, Michael D’Amour, president and CEO of Big Y said the two new Connecticut sites "fit nicely" within the chain's current store footprint. A third store — opening in Westborough, MA — had also previously been teased as a location for an imminent Amazon Fresh.
"All of us at Big Y are excited about the opportunity to enter into these communities with our unique fresh and local foods along with our exceptional and knowledgeable employees," D'Amour said.
Those employees are also in the process of stocking shelves for a new supermarket in Middletown with a mid-May launch, and another one that is planned for Uxbridge, MA.
When the dust clears, the grocery chain's store count across Connecticut and Massachusetts will be 77. Counting its Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors stores and Big Y Express outlets, the company employs more than 10,000 employees, according to industry trade Progressive Grocer.
