Bobcat Juniors Continue Softball Winning Ways, Beat Bethel in Home Opener

Brookfield High School Softball Sports Bobcats Lionetti Lennon Fitzgerald Morey Fastpitch Local sports

The Brookfield Bobcats fastpitch softball team squeezed out another win for a victorious home opener at Brookfield High School on Thursday. Alyssa Lionetti pitched her second shut out in a row as the Bobcats (2-3) beat Bethel by a 3 - 0 score.

Cara Lennon led off the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to center field. After the Bethel pitcher hit a Brookfield batter, Alexandra Fitzgerald followed with an RBI single to right field to make the score 2 - 0. That was all Brookfield softball needed as Lionetti did enough to hold the Bethel offense in check with just barely enough Brookfield defense behind her. Bethel threatened in two innings including a bases loaded heart-stopper. But the junior-led Bobcats squeaked out of it. Erica Morey's single to center and stolen base got her to third base on a ground out by Laila Cofone. Lennon's RBI single to center capped the scoring at 3 - 0 for Brookfield to seal the home win as Lionetti and the defense ended any Bethel hopes in the top of the 7th inning, allowing just one single and one runner. Lennon was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs. Fitzgerald was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Morey scored the third run for Brookfield.
