Just a Smile and a Wave…

There’s a face in the window I pass each day

Just sitting, observing the world as I travel my way

She sometimes will smile and gives a quick wave

Sometimes she appears looking for something she saved

I always wave back and think to myself

Perhaps she is lonely, like a book on a shelf

Shall I intrude and get in her space

Perhaps I should remain, just a face

But then one day she didn’t appear

The window looked bare like no one cared

I got up my nerve and knocked on the door

A stranger appeared, no one I had seen before

I told her about my morning wave each day

She smiled and these words she did say

My Mom always told me how she started each morn

With her cup of coffee to greet the dawn

But you’ll never know how you made her day

With your wave and your smile as you went on your way

Mom left us last night and she was ready to go

But I want to thank you for your morning “hello”

I left the doorway and my heart was sad

But then these words made my heart glad

So I gaze at the window still seeking that face

And think to myself, she’s happy in her heavenly place…
