Brookfield Boy Scouts Assist Town's VFW

The Troop identified the grave sites of Brookfield's former military service men and women, marking them with flags.

For years, immediately before Memorial Day weekend, the Brookfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10201 has placed flags on the graves of veterans at the Town’s burial sites.

“As our VFW members grow older however, it has became increasingly more difficult for them to accomplish this task in all of Brookfield’s cemeteries. Through the efforts of Don Winkley, a former Historical Society President and Assistant Scout Master, Brookfield’s Troop 5 placed the flags at Central and Laurel Hill Cemeteries, Brookfield’s two largest, where the remains of nearly 160 veterans are buried,” Gene Roberts, a VFW and Brookfield Historical Society member said in a press release.

The Troop walked the many rows of tomb stones identifying the grave sites of Brookfield’s former military service men and women. When found, they marked the graves with flags, to continue a tradition which stretches back many years.

“Hats off to our local Brookfield Troop 5 who have earned a well deserved salute from all the Town’s veterans and thank you from its residents,” said Roberts.
