Brookfield Ethics Board Cites Tinsley Conflict of Interest

The ethics board will makes recommendations to avoid future conflicts of interest.

On the heels of losing his bid for re-election, Brookfield First Selectman Bill Tinsley has suffered another setback.

The Board of Ethics has ruled his hiring in July of a Republican town committee member was a conflict of interest, according to the Danbury News-Times.

The ethics board will issue recommendations to the Board of Selectmen on Tinsley’s fate as well as possible guidelines to prevent something similar from happening in the future.

Greg Dembowski, vice chair of the town’s Economic Development Commission and GOP town committee member, was hired as a part-time employee by Tinsley, who tried to skirt Board of Selectmen approval for engaging independent contract workers.

The ethics board saw Dembowski’s GOP committee involvement as a conflict because Tinsley was seeking re-election and a possible committee endorsement.
