Brookfield First Selectman Under Investigation By Town Ethics Board

Howard Lasser filed a complaint against Bill Tinsley and the Brookfield Board of Ethics voted unanimously to schedule a hearing for November

The Board of Ethics held a special meeting on Oct. 26, 2015 where, according to Town of Brookfield meeting minutes, they accepted complaints for probable cause investigations on complaint numbers C2015-07 and C2015-08.

The Ethics Board will have a hearing on Nov. 12, with a backup date of Nov. 13, for a hearing on these complaints.

According to the News Times, the Board of Ethics is investigating whether Brookfield First Selectman Bill Tinsley ‘s actions on hiring a ”political ally” to help the Four Corners project are a violation of ethics.

Howard Lasser filed the complaint after Tinsley hired Republican Town Committee member Greg Dembowski. Lasser told the News Times that Tinsley hired Dembowski as a part-time project manager without considering other candidates or posting the vacancy.

According to the Town Charter, the penalty for an offense includes but is not limited to, any one or combination of the following:

  • A. Public admonition or reprimand.
  • B. Suspension or demotion.
  • C. Forfeiture of or removal from appointed or elected office.
  • D. Termination of employment.
  • E. Cease and desist orders, which must be enforced by a court of competent jurisdiction.
  • F. A fine up to the maximum amount permitted by law.
