Brookfield Holds New Hope for Settlement in Bolek Pension Suit

A retired controller had sued the town to reclaim over $100K in retirement benefits Brookfield officials say he was overpaid.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The town may be able to avoid going to trial in the suit brought against it by a retired controller, the News Times is reporting.

In 2016 Brookfield demanded that Ray Bolek reimburse the town for $110,000 in benefits which officials said they had overpaid him. Bolek gave the money back, and the town reduced his monthly pension benefit to $2,650 a month, down from $3,200. Then Bolek sued the town to get the money back and his monthly benefit payout restored to $3,200.

A jury trial was scheduled for next week, but Bolek's attorney told the News Times on Monday that both sides are trying to mediate, and a settlement is now more likely than not.
