Brookfield Library To Host Voter Registration Drive

The event will be held on National Voter Registration Day, a national initiative to celebrate democracy and encourage voting.

BROOKFIELD, CT — To celebrate National Voter Registration Day, the Brookfield Library is partnering with the Town Registrars of Voters and the League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County to hold a voter registration drive in the library parking lot on Sept. 22 from 1 to 6 pm.

Registrars Dotti Dori and Ryan Murphy and representatives from the League of Women Voters will be on site to help residents register to vote. No appointments are needed. To register, you must be a US citizen and be 18 years old by Nov. 3, 2020. An ID is required.

"This event is a good opportunity to register in person and ask questions about the election. Town Hall is currently only open by appointment to register in person," said Democratic Registrar of Voters Dotti Dori. Republican Registrar of Voters Ryan Murphy said, "We encourage people to register early to be sure they are ready for Election Day."

"As part of the Connecticut General Statutes, libraries are required to offer voter registration services year-round, but on this day, National Voter Registration Day, we are pleased to be collaborating on this organically bipartisan event, with our voter registrars for Brookfield, to provide an additional point of access where the residents can make sure they are registered to vote. It's safe, it's simple. Just stop by the library on Tuesday afternoon and leave as a registered voter!" said Library Director Yvonne Cech.

"The LWV of Northern Fairfield County welcomes the opportunity to partner with Brookfield Library's efforts to promote active citizenship. We applaud their dedication to the community," said Judith Griemsmann, president of the League chapter. "The League of Women Voters believes, 'Democracy is not a spectator sport.' Be a voter!"
