Brookfield Lions Support Brookfield Social Services Program

Brookfield Lions Donate $2500 for the Back to School Back Pack and the Food Pantry

The Brookfield Lions recently gave checks to Jeanette Holliday Social Service Coordinator of $1500 to the Back to School Back Pack Program and $1000 to purchase food for the Food Pantry. These funds were generated by renting garden space in the Lions Community Gardens located in the Gurski Farm located on Route 133. The Lions created this Garden as a way to serve the town as well as its citizens. This activity attracts many different people from condo owners, senior citizens, boy scouts working on merit badges, and people looking to socialize. It started in 2009 with 35 plots and has rapidly grown to 106 plots. The rental money collected helps to defray the costs of building and maintain the Garden. Surplus funds, when available, are donated to local causes.

The Lions Club is the largest Service Organization in the World with over 1.4 million members in 45,000 Local clubs located in over 200 countries and territories. The Brookfield Lions support a number of local, regional and international causes including Guiding Eyes for the Blind Guide Dogs, Pediatric/Adult Vision Screening, Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation, Eyeglasses for the Needy, Red Cross Blood Drives, Ability Beyond and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Brookfield Lions meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.
