Brookfield Museum: Whale Boat Wars During the American Revolution

A Powerpoint Presentation will be given Monday evening, August 6th, at 7:30 PM

On Monday evening, August 6, 2018, The Brookfield Historical Society will host a program at 7:30 PM in the Brookfield Museum located at 165 Whisconier Road (Junction of Routes 25 and 133) in Brookfield Center.

American Historian, Edward Hynes, a native of Wilton, CT, will conduct a power point presentation on one of many approaches by Patriots during the American Revolution, to take the war to the British by capturing vitally needed supplies and war material. Hynes focus will be on Long Island Sound’s thirteen whaleboats which had been commissioned by Connecticut “to cruize in the Sound”, each operating as a privateer under a bond of £2,000. Their main intent was to prevent unauthorized commerce and traffic between Connecticut and Long Island; in some cases, goods were allowed to be brought into Connecticut but it was illegal to trade or sell anything outside the state without permission. A more aggressive goal was “to land on Long Island and there take all British property. Hynes will bring this unknown aspect of the American Revolution to the forefront.

Admission is free and following the program complimentary refreshments will be available. For more information on this and other planned events of the Brookfield Historical Society log onto www.brookfieldcthistory.org.
