Brookfield PD Warns of Scams as Power Returns

"If a deal sounds too good to be true," the PD is advising, "it likely is."

BROOKFIELD, CT -- The Brookfield Police Department has taken to social media to warn residents about scam artists misrepresenting themselves as Eversource employees:

Be aware that criminals take every opportunity they can to do what they do. DO NOT fall victim to people on the phone claiming to be Eversource CT offering discounts. DO NOT provide anyone calling you, with your account number and certainly do not provide them any form of payment.

Be leery about people showing up, going door to door, offering tree services, pest control services or any other service. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it likely is.

Last week town officials warned residents they had received reports of door-to-door solicitation offering tree services, often at extremely over-inflated prices.

The caution comes amidst the re-opening of the town's schools on Wednesday morning and restoration of power to all but 12 residents as of 1:30 p.m. after a week of closure and outage.
