Brookfield Police Recognize Their Own
Officers and dispatchers recognized at special awards ceremony.
The Brookfield Police Department held a special awards ceremony on Thursday, November 17, recognizing 21 officers and dispatchers for outstanding service over the last few years.
According to Chief Robin Montgomery, who was the master of ceremonies for the event, said that the department only gives out awards every “four to five years,” making these recognitions that much more important. Below is a list of recipients, in alphabetical order by last name, followed by descriptions of the awards.
- Officer Michael Almeida: Honorable Service, Unit Citation
- Officer Jason Anderson: Honorable Service
- Dispatcher Robert Appleby: Dispatcher Exceptional Service
- Sgt. Tony Augustine: Honorable Service
- Officer Eric Birdseye: Citation for Meritorious Service, Honorable Service, Career Citation, Unit Citation
- Cpl. Kevin Brooks: Award in Criminal Investigation
- Sgt. Matthew Donadio: Career Citation
- Officer Joseph Dzamko: Lifesaving, Police Educational Achievement
- Officer Jason Fiege: Medal for Bravery, Police Educational Achievement
- Officer Sean Flynn: Police Educational Achievement, Unit Citation
- Sgt. Peter Frengs: Gallantry Star — Excellent Arrest
- Officer Jeff Harrington: Honorable Service
- Officer Mitchell Heller: Police Educational Achievement

Awards
Metal for Bravery: Act of bravery wherein member’s life has been perilously exposed to danger to save the life of another or perform an extraordinary police duty

Citation for Meritorious Service: Member renders a service beyond the ordinary course of duty resulting in protection of life or property, prevention of a major crime or the arrest of a dangerous and armed criminal
Gallantry Star — Excellent Arrest: Distinguished professionalism in the arrest of a person who is a threat to the community and/or the officer or fellow officers

Distinguished Service: An act or service that does not fall within the criteria for Medals of Valor or Bravery, Citation for Meritorious Service or Lifesaving
Lifesaving: Line of duty act which, through disregard of personal safety or prompt and alter action, results in saving a life
Honorable Service: Creditable act in the line of duty that is unusual in nature, showing initiative and accomplishment or compassion
Award in Criminal Investigation: Successful completion of an unusually difficult criminal investigation resulting in arrest(s) utilizing exception diligence, skill and investigative technique
Career Citation: Twenty or more years of honorable service
Police Educational Achievement: Recognizes Criminal Justice or Social Sciences degrees earned by members
Dispatcher Exceptional Service: Highly credible act bringing public acclaim to self, the department, the community or the profession as a result of the dispatcher’s actions
Unit Citation: Awarded to members of specialized teams within the Police Department
