Brookfield Public Hearing For Affordable Housing Proposal Has Been Postponed

The Town of Brookfield's Public Hearing for 763 and 777 Federal Road, The Renaissance, has been postponed to a later date.

The Public Hearing for 763 and 777 Federal Road, has been rescheduled to December 10, 2015. The exact location for this Public Hearing will be announced, according to Francis W. Lollie, Assistant Land Use Manager, Zoning Enforcement Officer, Town of Brookfield.

The meeting will include hearing Application #201500951, Text Regulation Amendment, #201500955, Zone Map Change, and #201500956, Design Review for a multi-family affordable housing.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Thursday to hear comments regarding creating a new zoning classification for the Federal Road properties known as “The Renaissance.” If approved, the project will have 156 rental apartments, including 47 affordable housing units, according to the News Times.

The property at 777 Federal Road is listed as “Candlebrook Village” on Loopnet and is located in the plaza of Kid’s Castle Day Care Center. The second property, 763 Federal Road, is an unoccupied property.

First Selectman Bill Tinsley said that he supports Brookfield’s current zoning plan. “They’re proposing plans that are not in line with our current zoning plans. I don’t know anyone that supports it,” Tinsley told Patch.

Incoming First Selectman Steve Dunn is against the affordable housing units and said at the First Selectman debate that there is a need for a variety of types of housing in Brookfield, including affordable, mid-range and luxury, such as Newbury Village.

“I would like to see a real downtown center with commercial that’s viable. All stores feed off each other. If there are not enough stores, they won’t be viable,” Dunn told the News Times.
