Brookfield, Renter and State Come to Agreement on Federal Road Parking Lot: Report

The town has come to an agreement with the state to lift deed restrictions on the property.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Town officials will pay $244,500 to lift deed restrictions from the state on a Federal Road parcel, reports the News Times.

The owner of a neighboring shopping center, Riaz Hussain, had been renting the space for parking. First Selectman Steve Dunn said that Hussain stopped paying his rent, arguing the agreement was in violation of the state's requirements that the land be used for recreation.

State officials appraised the land and agreed to lift the deed restrictions after they were approached by the town last year.
