Brookfield Schools: Snow Day Thursday, No Remote Learning

BROOKFIELD, CT — The public schools have cancelled remote learning on Thursday, in anticipation of a nor'easter expected to drop heavy accumulations of snow in the region.

Schools Superintendent John Barile also cited "the likelihood of statewide blizzard wind conditions with potential for power outages" for making the decision, in an email to families Wednesday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 12-16 inches of snow in Brookfield, starting Wednesday afternoon, and ending early Thursday afternoon.

"Future consideration whether to close school or hold a remote learning day in lieu of a snow day, will be made on a case-by-case basis since each storm has its own characteristics and potential impact," Barile wrote. "Consideration will include a variety of factors including, the current model of instruction, the availability of power/internet, and magnitude of the weather forecast, just to include a few. Safety and the quality of teaching and learning are at the forefront of such deliberations."

The cancellation pushes the last day of school to June 14.
