Brookfield Seafood Processing Facility Gets Warning from FDA

The FDA inspected the seafood facility and found serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point regulation.

A Brookfield seafood processing facility received a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Food Safety News.

Japanese Specialty Food Distributors Ltd, Co. operates a facility located at 2 Sand Cut Rd., Ste 7 in Brookfield. The FDA inspected the seafood processing facility on six separate dates and found “serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation.”

In their letter to the owner, Mr. Jun Y. Kim, the FDA stated:

“Failure of a processor of fish or fishery products to have and implement a HACCP plan that complies with this section or otherwise operate in accordance with the requirements of Part 123, renders the fish or fishery products adulterated. As an importer of fish or fishery products... there must be evidence that all fish and fishery products offered for entry into the United States have been processed under conditions that comply with 21 CFR Part123. Your frozen vacuum packaged raw salmon and frozen vacuum packaged raw tuna products are adulterated, in that they have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health.”

The FDA said the Brookfield seafood manufacturer is to comply with the following requirements:

1. Conduct a hazard analysis for each kind of fish and fishery product produced to determine whether there are food safety hazards that are reasonably likely to occur

2. Monitor sanitation conditions and practices during processing with sufficient frequency to ensure compliance with current good manufacturing practice requirements

3. Implement written import verification procedures, that include product specifications and an affirmative step, for ensuring that the fish and fishery products imported into the United States were processed in accordance with the seafood HACCP regulation
