Brookfield Selectmen Approve Funds For New Kindergarten Teacher

The school board had requested $84,490 for the 2019-20 fiscal year to cover the new hire

BROOKFIELD, CT — The selectmen unanimously approved the special appropriation for a ninth kindergarten teacher at their meeting Monday, the News-Times is reporting.

The school board had requested $84,490 for the 2019-20 fiscal year to cover the new hire, who they say is necessary to handle kindergarten enrollment higher than anticipated.

The increased enrollment would result in class sizes averaging just over 21 students, or "well above the recommended class size" of 17-20 students, BOE Chair Colette Sturm wrote in a letter dated June 20.
