Brookfield Selectmen Vote On $470k Special Ed. Cost Increase
The board recommended the Board of Finance appropriate additional funds for special education cost increases.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Board of Selectman voted to recommend that the Board of Finance appropriate $470,500 to fund an increase in special education costs for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. First Selectman Steve Dunn and Selectman Sue Slater voted in favor of the plan while Selectman Harry Shaker voted against it, according to meeting minutes.
The board voted unanimously to recommend to the Board of Finance that $120,792 be taken from the contingency fund to fund the difference between what the Board of Education expected from a state grant ($900,000) and what the state plans to fund ($779,208).
The Board of Finance is scheduled to meet Jan. 30.
