Brookfield Sets New Policy on Beach Closures

The waters will be tested weekly for e.Coli and other contaminants.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The town has announced it will be testing the waters of local beaches weekly to determine whether they should remain open.

Beach waters at Candlewood Shores Beach and Brookfield Town Park will be tested Tuesdays, with results published the next day, the new policy states.

If the concentration of e.Coli or the toxin cyanotoxin are above recommended lavels on Tuesday, the waters will be tested again Thursday. Two failures in a row will close the beach.

"The Director of Health or his Designee will make the final determination regarding beach closure or re=opening based upon existing condition and knowledge and experience," the new policy reads.
