Brookfield VFW Honors 28 students from St. Joseph’s Academy
28 middle school students were recognized for their participation in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot Pen Program.
At a recent ceremony held at the St. Joseph’s Academy in Brookfield, 28 middle school students were recognized for their participation in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot Pen Program. It was conducted locally under the auspices of the Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post, and encouraged students to write an essay on what the American Flag meant to them.
The program is part of a nationwide scholarship contest in which the essays judge to be the best by the National VFW Command will be awarded a scholarship. Each of the students who competed at the local level were recognized for their compositions and received a certificate of appreciation issued by the Post. Two of the entries written by students Sania Toprani and Avedis Ovanessian were selected as most noteworthy and forwarded to the Connecticut State VFW Command for further consideration in the scholarship contest
Tabitha Potok, a member of the Brookfield VFW, moderated the program and called each participant in the contest forward while Pam Fallon, Director of Education at the Academy, handed the students their certificates.

Joseph Beal, the Brookfield VFW Post Commander, thanked the students and congratulated each of the participants on their outstanding efforts in composing the essays.
