Brookfield VFW Post re-designated Jason D. Lewis Post 10201

Brookfield VFW Post being re-designated as the Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial Post 10201

By unanimous consent of the membership of the Brookfield VFW Post 10201 an official request for re-designation of the Post name was recently submitted to the Connecticut State VFW Command and approved. Effective immediately the Post is henceforth to be known as the Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post 10201.

Lewis, a former Brookfield resident was born June 30, 1977, lived in Brookfield for most of his life attending Brookfield High. He enlisted in the United States Navy July 22, 1996 and went on to complete Underwater Demolition/Seal Training. He deployed to Iraq and as a result of enemy action near Baghdad, along with two other Navy Personnel, died of injuries sustained in combat from an improvised explosive device July 6, 2007.

During a memorial service eulogy, it was noted that Jason embodied the Navy core values of honor, courage, and commitment, time and again in training and on the battlefield. Former Governor Jodi Rell said of Lewis “He is a hero not just to us in Brookfield, but to our entire state and our entire country. His sacrifice on behalf of all of us will never be forgotten.

Lewis was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor. He is survived by his wife Donna Tyransky Lewis, and three children Jack, Max and Grace.

A formal dedication ceremony is scheduled to take place in the spring. Brookfield VFW Post Commander Joseph Beal commenting on the renaming stated, “It is indeed a high honor that the name of our fallen hero, Chief Petty Officer Lewis, will forever be an integral part of this organization.”
