Brookfield to Vote on Next Phase of Streetscape

If approved, construction for the third phase would begin summer 2019.

BROOKFIELD — Residents will attend a special town meeting Monday night to vote on funding for the the third phase of the downtown streetscape project.

The ongoing project is designed to make downtowm more pedestrian- and shopper-friendly. The first phase was completed this summer, and saw the construction of sidewalks and other amenities in the Four Corners area of downtown. A second phase, already approved, will be undertaken summer 2019.

The third phase would focus upon Old Route 7 and Laurel Hill Road, adding sidewalks, parking and a bike trail to the area. The cost, which voters would have to approve on Monday, is $1.3 million. The town hopes to offset that with state and federal grants. If approved, construction would begin in the summer of 2020.
