Brookfield Voters Reject Every Budget
Proposed spending plans for the town, schools and capital spending were all shot down.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Residents soundly rejected the proposed 2018-19 town, school and capital budgets in Tuesday’s referendum.
The $24.4 million town budget proposal represented a 2.4 percent spending increase from this year, and the $43 million school budget plan would have increased their budget by 4.9 percent. The capital budget would have allowed Brookfield to replace some town-owned trucks and buy new command cars for the Center and Candlewood fire companies, as well as renovate the boys’ locker room at the high school.
Voting was extremely light and the final vote count delayed, all attributed to the severe storm activity in the town on Tuesday.
